Santa Barbara Dance Workshops

Over the years, some of the most important influences in dance have given workshops at the Carrillo Ballroom. Past instructors have included Frankie Manning, Maxie Dorf, Jean Veloz, Ryan and Jenny, Steve Mitchell, Mario Robau Jr., Charlie and Jackie, and many others.

But unfortunately, there are no workshops planned at this time because the Ballroom will be undergoing renovations until at least March 2010.

The following clip shows Frankie Manning and Sylvia demonstrating the last sequence that he taught in Santa Barbara.

He was 93. In the second half of the video Frankie came to the Rec to teach in 2002 after he'd had hip surgery. He was 89! We miss you Frankie...

The fire that destroyed Sylvia's house also destroyed all the video records of our lessons with the great Balboa dancer, Maxi Dorf. This is one of the few clips that has survived.
